Apple is becoming more and more broken. That started with the arrogance of Steve Jobs and has gone downhill since. There is so much broken about MacOS that I don’t know where to start. They have 16 separate desktops but can’t make them work correctly. The arrogance shows especially in their approach to desktop images. You have a choice of 5 seconds, a minute, etc. My bone to pick is that 5 seconds is too short and 1 minute is too long. If you dare reboot and ask to leave something open, it is a mess when it comes back up. There is no consistency. Every piece of their own software works differently with regards to reboot and overall intuitiveness. Now, they have added a ip address hide. EVERYTHING you type goes through Apple. Even worse is, if you look at network proxies, they have stuck one in there that does the same thing! I think enough people realized that Apple was taking everything in that they wanted to find a new way to have access to ALL OF YOUR DATA, hence the ip address hide scheme.

Each one of their computers have broken hardware WHICH THEY WILL NEVER ADMIT. Same old arrogance.

The reason I really want to rant is that I finally figured out their game. They make their software into crap so that, if you really want to do anything, you go buy some software at Apple Store. Bait and switch. You are supposed to believe that all of the software that they put on Apple Store is safe. That has already proved untrue.

Sadly, it is still probably the best computer out there. The brokenness of Apple and Microsoft has been around long enough for some group of individuals to develop a new hardware and software architecture that updates things. This happens in every industry but, somehow, I doubt it will happen robustly in computers any time soon. Google could do it but Google wants your data more than anyone, hence the Google computer platform that puts everything online in THEIR cloud.

Oh, here’s one I just love. Apple restricts your ability to size text. Instead, if you want to use that 4k TV or monitor you bought, you have to change the resolution to about 1k. There are so many more.

OK! I’m just kidding!
Actually, different people means different needs.

At my own PC, I kept Win7 RC but I switched to Ubuntu as my main OS.
What I like at Linux is, Freedom as value (community and GPL based instead of corporate), free to use and share, free to hacking everything you want (from GRUB to Compiz), free to use the command prompt for almost everything (since I’m an old DOS junkie), 🙂 and free to extensive use the source code compilation.
From the other hand, companies are just starting to support it, so if someone has to use Photoshop or similar apps, it has to stick to it’s current OS for his production line.

What I liked at Linux as a newby, was the learning process (I read and practised A LOT) and collaboration at fora (where I posted tons of questions)! 🙂
I suppose if someone doesn’t have the time for the learning curve and wants more than the basic tasks, just out of the box from his OS, then he don’t want (or he actually can’t) move away from his current OS.
On the other hand, learning something new, keeps you mentally alive, years after the school era (I’m 41yo.).

Well, I actually posted to say A BIG THANKS to you, to Rene and to all the developers and maintainers of QMC2! 😉
Keep up the good work!!!
Best Wishes!!!

I run Linux and have a Windows XP system as guest in Virtual Box. It’s easier for me that way, at the cost of some performance.
